Haigazian University was founded on October 17, 1955 by the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA) and the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE). Its degrees were officially recognized as equivalent to Lebanese credentials in 1971; it was named "Haigazian University" by Lebanese decree #9657 in 1996, and incorporated as a US 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2000.

A single urban campus in Kantari, Beirut, with five buildings: the Webb Building (the university's original ten-room house), the Mugar Heritage Building (purchased 1970), a fourth building on the Mugar property (built 2001), the rented left wing of the Armenian Evangelical College (2004), and the New Heritage Building plot (purchased 2004). Two of these buildings are listed by the Lebanese Ministry of Culture as heritage buildings (Haigazian's page does not say which two).

Haigazian offers 30 undergraduate degree programs across 4 faculties: Business Administration and Economics (FBAE), Sciences (in two divisions — Natural Sciences and Mathematical Sciences), Social and Behavioral Sciences (FSBS), and Humanities (FH). It also offers two post-bachelor's Teaching Diploma credentials (24 credits general, 27 credits in Special Education) that a student completes during or after a B.A./B.S., not as a standalone freshman-entry major, so they are not in the table below. Current enrollment is about 700 students with a 14:1 student-faculty ratio, over 110 faculty members, and 4,750 graduates to date. All instruction is in English on the American liberal-arts credit system.

Accreditation: the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics holds specialized accreditation from the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), first granted in July 2024 (current status: Member with Accredited Programs).

A typical 30-credit/year load works out to roughly $10,050/year in tuition before fees and insurance. Refunds: students who withdraw for justifiable reasons receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees in the first two weeks of a Fall or Spring semester, and 50% in weeks three and four; no refunds are made after week four or for the Summer session. Fees are subject to change without prior notice.

Requirements​

English proficiency​

All instruction is in English; every applicant must demonstrate proficiency via one of SAT (institutional code 0106), TOEFL ITP (paper), TOEFL iBT (institutional code 4278), IELTS, or G.C.E. English Language. SAT, TOEFL ITP, TOEFL iBT and IELTS scores are each valid for two years (Haigazian's page does not state a validity period for G.C.E.). Scores determine the English placement.

Teaching Diploma applicants need a paper TOEFL ≥525 or equivalent.

High-school grades​

  • Lebanese Baccalaureate, or a foreign official certificate for candidates who followed a foreign program.
  • Non-Lebanese curricula must obtain an equivalence certificate from the Lebanese Ministry of Education (MEHE) before applying.
  • A signed and sealed secondary-school recommendation form covering the last three years of grades is required.
