LU describes itself as the only public university institution in Lebanon, providing higher education almost free of charge to Lebanese, Arab and foreign students. It traces its origin to 1951, when its first unit was created, and Decree No. 2883 of December 16, 1959 organized it as a university.

LU's home page shows undated counters of 77,000 students, more than 450 specializations and 19 faculties and institutes; its own Faculties menu lists 17 plus three doctoral schools. Branches exist across most governorates since the 1975 war, except for the faculties of Medical Sciences, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Agronomy and the doctoral schools, which remain in Beirut.

LU states program durations, not credit totals, so the majors table computes credits as duration × 60 credits/year (most Bachelor's degrees run 3 years/180 credits; Engineering diplomas 5 years; Medicine 7 years; Veterinary Medicine 6 years) — see SOURCES.md for every program's duration, including the ones LU does not publish. LU also reports institutional accreditation from HCERES (extended to the end of 2023) and program-level accreditation for several faculties, including EUR-ACE for Engineering (2019); some program accreditations expire in 2026 with no renewal yet reported.

Several 2026-27 entrance-exam dates changed after they were first announced, for reasons LU's faculties describe as exceptional circumstances (see Application). The majors table lists 90 programs, about half with their own LU program page and half linking instead to their faculty's page; see SOURCES.md for full sourcing, this year's new programs, and every inconsistency found in LU's own pages.

Application​

Application Types + Windows​

LU has no single application. Each faculty sets its own dates and conditions, on top of the general conditions (the Lebanese Baccalaureate or its equivalent). LU's faculty pages mark admission as "General conditions + Competitive Entrance Exam (CEE)" for Engineering, Information, Economics and Business Administration, Fine Arts and Architecture and Agronomy, and as "General conditions + Competitive Entrance Exam (in certain specializations)" for Letters and Human Sciences. For 2026-27, faculty announcements (for Engineering, LU news items) show a CEE for first-year bachelor's entry at Engineering, Public Health, Economics and Business Administration, Fine Arts and Architecture, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Information, Pedagogy, Agronomy and Technology, at the French Section of Law and at two Letters and Human Sciences centers, and a CEE for second-year entry to Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy (their first year is taught at the Faculty of Science). For first-year entry the Faculty of Science announces registration only, and it takes file applications for second-year Geological Sciences. "Students are only enrolled within the deadlines set each year by the faculty or institute administration."

How to register: (1) Where a CEE applies, apply to the faculty online or in person at the branch you choose, pay the exam fee as the faculty says (at LibanPost for the faculties that name it) and sit the exam. (2) Fill in the e-registration form on SISOL (sisol.ul.edu.lb). Administrative Memo No. 5 calls this phase one for all faculties, open from July 21, 2026, with the fees paid in a later phase; branches announced their own starts (Science from July 21, July 23, July 27 or September 3), and Public Health, Dental Medicine and Technology asked admitted students to fill the form in before their in-person registration. (3) Complete administrative registration at the faculty or branch with the original documents, pay the fees at LibanPost and, if you are insured, submit the NSSF statement (uninsured students submit a non-benefit declaration). The student attends in person; a non-Lebanese student who cannot attend may authorize a parent, sibling or embassy by a power of attorney certified by the Lebanese consulate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

University-wide registration dates for 2026-27:

During the registration period, Memo No. 7 lets students transfer their registration from one faculty to another (under each faculty's regulations) or from one branch to another within the same faculty without paying the fees again.

Entrance exams and applications for first-year bachelor's entry (second-year entry for Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy), 2026-27. "Opens" is the first application date and "Closes" the last, and several faculties reopened after a break (listed below the table). Every date is from the faculty's latest announcement that states it:

  • Second application windows. FTHM took applications Jun 22 – Jul 30, 2026 and Sep 1–15, 2026; FI Jun 22 – Jul 30, 2026 and Sep 1–10, 2026; FMS Jul 20–29, 2026 and Sep 1–10, 2026; FDM Jul 27 – Jul 30, 2026 and Sep 3–10, 2026; Pharmacy Jul 27 – Jul 30, 2026 and Sep 2–10, 2026; FFAA Plastic Arts and Theater May 11 – Jul 30, 2026 and Sep 1–4, 2026. FEBA extended its deadline from Jul 9, 2026 to Jul 23, 2026, FFAA from Jun 30, 2026 to Jul 9, 2026 and FLPAS French Section to Jul 28, 2026.   • Dates that changed. FEBA moved its exam from Jul 18, 2026 to Aug 11, 2026; FFAA from Jul 7–11, 2026 to Jul 13–17, 2026; FPed from July (Jul 15–16, 2026) to September; FDM from Sep 7–9, 2026 to Sep 15–17, 2026; Pharmacy from Sep 8–9, 2026 to Sep 16–17, 2026; FLPAS French Section from Jul 15, 2026 to Jul 30, 2026; FLHS Center for Languages and Translation from Sep 2–3, 2026 to Sep 14–16, 2026; FLHS Center of Language Sciences and Communication from Sep 3, 2026 to Sep 23, 2026 (oral) and Sep 25, 2026 (written). FFAA's web announcement of May 22 prints September applications as "1-9", but the PDF and the schedule announcement say Sep 1–4, 2026, which the table uses.

  • Faculty of Science. No first-year entrance exam is announced. New students register on SISOL, from Jul 21, 2026 (Branch 1), Jul 27, 2026 (Branch 2), Jul 23, 2026 (Branch 5) and Sep 3, 2026 (Branch 3), then complete administrative registration in person as each branch announces (Branch 1 by appointment). Branch 5 opened in-person registration on Sep 22, 2026 and starts classes on Oct 5, 2026. Equivalency and exemption applications: Sep 3–21, 2026 for LU students and Jun 22 – Jul 21, 2026 for students from other universities (extended from Jul 15, 2026). Second-year entry to the Bachelor in Geological Sciences takes file applications from Jul 13, 2026 to Oct 1, 2026 (for students who completed the first year of the Bachelor of Natural Sciences; no exam announced).   • Not published on LU's site. The Engineering application window and results for 2026-27 (the last published entrance-exam announcement is for 2025-26: applications Jun 2 – Jul 11, 2025, exam Jul 17, 2025); bachelor's application windows for Letters and Human Sciences outside the two centers above (its five branches hold eligibility tests on Sep 22, 2026 for the language departments and Sep 23, 2026 for Psychology; the notice does not state the level); bachelor's entry to Law and Political and Administrative Sciences outside the French Section, to the Institute of Social Science and to the Higher Institute of Applied Economic Sciences; and every date for 2027-28.

Tuition (AY 2026-2027)​

LU says it provides higher education almost free of charge, and it sets enrolment fees in Lebanese pounds, paid in one instalment. The schedule below is on LU's Admissions > New Students sections; the Admissions page that carries them is dated Sep 2, 2025. LU has not published a dated 2026-27 schedule or any US dollar amounts. One 2026-27 notice, the Pedagogy master's registration notice of Sep 7, 2026, repeats the applied-faculty master's amount (LBP 18,235,000) and the NSSF amount, which supports those two figures; the other rows are not confirmed for 2026-27.

A Faculty of Science Branch 5 notice (Sep 17, 2026) says that Palestinian students residing in Lebanon, and foreign students with a Lebanese mother who reside in Lebanon under a valid residence permit, pay the same fees as Lebanese students, provided they submit a copy of their Lebanese mother's registration statement (the notice does not say whether this applies to the Palestinian students).

The program pages of Engineering, Agronomy, Economics and Business Administration, Information and Technology show no fees. The Faculty of Technology's own fee page (iut.ul.edu.lb) lists an annual fee of LBP 295,000 and a social security fee of 202,500, which conflict with LU's general schedule and Memo No. 6, so they are not used here. LU's Admissions page says undergraduate students of the faculties on the Rafik Hariri University Campus in Hadath may apply for dorms, which the Office of University Campus Affairs manages under Resolution No. 2784 dated 10/11/2004 (as printed); it gives no dorm fees.

LU's Admissions and faculty pages list no scholarship for bachelor's applicants. The calls it posted for 2026-27 are for graduate students, mostly joint-supervision PhD calls with partner universities and Erasmus+ mobility calls. Three examples, all closed:

Decision No. 890 of July 3, 2026 raises the annual grant for outstanding LU graduates sent abroad for specialized studies to LBP 800,000,000 per student (from LBP 600,000,000), starting in 2026-27.

Requirements​

General documents​

From the four Admissions > New Students sections (each faculty adds its own; see the table below):

  • The Lebanese Baccalaureate or its equivalent, with a copy certified by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE). Non-Lebanese students are accepted on certificates that give access to higher education in their country and are equivalent to the Lebanese Baccalaureate, and provide a certified passport copy.
  • A personal civil-status record issued within the last 3 months (or a copy of the ID card for Lebanese students), two certified ID photos, proof of NSSF coverage if any, a financial stamp of LBP 50,000 and the CEE fee where one applies (high school, LU and private-university sections).
  • Students from private universities: each faculty, under its own regulations, may accept students from other universities if the documents are duly certified.

From the 2026-27 faculty announcements:

  • The Faculty of Science takes equivalency and exemption applications (Jun 22 – Jul 21, 2026 for students from other universities, extended from Jul 15, 2026; Sep 3–21, 2026 for LU students).
  • FEBA, FFAA, FPH, FI, FPed, FA, Technology and the two Letters and Human Sciences centers accept a copy of the 2025-26 Baccalaureate candidacy document (FI and FPH also a 2025-26 school transcript, and CLT a 2025-26 candidacy card or school certificate) in place of the diploma when applying; FEBA states that the original documents must be submitted after the results or admission is void. FTHM asks for the diploma (or the Technical Baccalaureate, BT3).

Entrance exams by faculty, 2026-27​

FacultyWhat the exam covers

Engineering (FE)Entry conditions and notes: Three of the four program pages (Chemical and Petrochemical, Electrical and Electronic, Mechanical) state general conditions plus success in the CEE with an average of at least 12/20. Three branches (Tripoli/Ras Maska, Roumieh, Hadath); instruction in French and English. The exam takes both the Lebanese and French Baccalaureate curricula into account.
Last published conditions (2025-26): Mathematics 8:30–11:00, Physics 11:30–13:30, Chemistry 13:30–14:30. The faculty's site posted the 2026 papers in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, in English and French, on Jul 27, 2026; the 2026-27 conditions are not on LU's site.
Public Health (FPH)Entry conditions and notes: Seven branches (Fanar, Hadath, Tripoli, Zahle, Saida, Ain W Zein, Rachaya); in 2026 the Branch 3 exam was held at Rasmaska, Koura. Bring the LibanPost receipt, a 2025 or 2026 civil-status record (or ID or passport) and an HB2 pencil. Admitted students also sit an oral interview in the department during registration. The web text of the July 15 announcement prints Chemistry Series A for Nursing and Midwifery, but the schedule's PDF and the June 1 guide say Series B, which the table uses. The guide asks students exempt from Arabic to sit a paper in the other language (English for French-taught programs, French for English-taught ones). The guide also lists the languages and duration of each specialization.
The first paper starts at 8:30 and the papers follow one another, mostly an hour each (the Speech Therapy text-analysis papers take two hours and the Medical and Social Work philosophy or sociology paper an hour and a half). Physical Therapy, Laboratory Sciences, Optics and Optometry, Health and Environment, Nutrition and Dietetics, Ergotherapy, Radiology: Natural Sciences (Series A), French or English, Arabic, Chemistry (Series A), Physics, Mathematics. Legal Midwifery and Nursing Sciences: Natural Sciences (A), French or English, Arabic, Chemistry (B). Social and Health Services (Medical and Social Work): Natural Sciences (B), French or English, Arabic, General Philosophy or Sociology. Psychomotricity: Natural Sciences (A), French or English, Arabic, Analysis and Logic. Speech Therapy: Natural Sciences (A), French or English text analysis and dictation, Analysis and Logic, Arabic text analysis and dictation.
Economics and Business Administration (FEBA)Entry conditions and notes: Apply on fseg.ul.edu.lb, then register at one of six branches (Hadath, Ashrafieh, Tripoli, Aley, Nabatieh, Rashaya). Holders of technical and vocational diplomas in the fields the announcement lists (for example computer programming, accounting and IT, hotel arts) may sit the exam. Successful students must submit the original documents or their admission is void.
Mathematics (French or English; statistical series in two variables, logarithmic and exponential functions); Economics (Arabic, French or English; development, economic systems, the economic cycle, stimulus and anti-inflation policy, costs, interest); a foreign-language paper (French or English).
Fine Arts and Architecture (FFAA)Entry conditions and notes: A zero in any subject, or below 5/20 in a major's main subjects, voids the exam. Four branches (Hadath, Furn el Chebbak, Mont Michel, Mar Abda). Candidates sitting the 2026 Baccalaureate Part II (General Secondary) may apply.
By department. Architecture: Mathematics (40), Architectural Sketching (20), Artwork (20), General Culture in Arabic (20) and in a foreign language (20). Interior Design: Decorative Sketching (40), Artwork (40), General Culture in Arabic and in a foreign language (20 each). Graphic Design and Visual Communication: Advertising Sketching (40), Artwork (40), General Culture (20 each). Audiovisual: technical-eligibility interview (60) plus cultural and psychological eligibility (20), Creative Imagination (20), General Culture (20 each). Plastic Arts: Artwork (60), General Culture (20 each). Theater: interview (60 + 20), Creative Imagination (20), General Culture (20 each). The schedule lists no subjects for Musicology.
Tourism and Hospitality Management (FTHM)Entry conditions and notes: The Lebanese General Secondary diploma (or equivalent) or the Technical Baccalaureate (BT3) in hospitality management or tourism; ID or civil-status record; three certified photos; stamp.
An oral interview first, then a written exam for those who pass (at the faculty in Jnah, Beirut).
Information (FI)Entry conditions and notes: Majors: Journalism and Media Studies, Public Relations and Corporate Communication, Advertising and Marketing Communication, Data Management (Information Management), Data Science. Register at Branch 1 (UNESCO) or Branch 2 (Jdaidet El Metn) or apply online. Foreign-diploma holders need an official equivalency. The exam is at the Faculty of Science building, Fanar; candidates arrive by 7:30 (the start time is not stated).
Written text analysis in Arabic (1.5 h) and in a foreign language (1.5 h); a general-knowledge exam in the major (1.5 h) for all majors except Data Science; a Mathematics exam (1.5 h) for Data Science (non-programmable calculator only).

Language​

Each program page lists its language(s) of instruction, and the majors table repeats them. Engineering teaches in French and English at all three branches; Agronomy and Dental Medicine offer French and English sections; Pharmacy and Medicine list French and English. LU's admission pages publish no TOEFL, IELTS, DELF or SAT requirement.
